SOUTH PADRE ISLAND - Forever the Sickest Kids had no trouble reminding the thin crowd that
Spring Break had started Friday night at Louie’s Backyard.

The Dallas band delivered a short but high-powered dose of spunky power
pop and summery anthems on Louie’s main stage. The crowd was a mix of fans
and stragglers, but most everyone in the audience couldn’t resist dancing
to the music.

Forever the Sickest Kids, hot off 2007’s Warped Tour and currently part of
the Alternative Press Tour, is comprised of six skinny, tight-jean
wearing, shaggy-haired young men. The band – singer Jonathon Cook, drummer
Kyle Burns, keyboard player Kent Garrison, guitarist Marc Stewart, bass
player Austin Bello and guitarist Caleb Tarman – radiated an infectious
juvenile charm on and off the stage.

The crowd cheered as Cook, a tight T-shirt painted on to his body and a
blue “trucker” cap topping his shaggy ’do, shouted key Spring Break
phrases like “Party!” “Dudes!” “Drink!’ and “Babes!” in between songs.
Cook encouraged crowd members to sing along and, if the feeling hit, take
off their clothes.

Garrison’s pulsating synth beats and electronic drums added an unusual
dance flair to the band’s guitar-based pop rock. FTSK ripped through close
to 10 songs in les than 45 minutes. The high point was “Hey Brittany,” an
almost tropical sounding, catchy, computer-aided slice of pop punk.

The band plays Houston on March 14 and will continue touring the country
through May 4. Their first, full-length album is set to hit stores August
29.

Houston rapper Chamillionaire plays Louie’s main stage Monday, March 10.
