Claim to Fame: Numerous chart-topping albums and singles, including the recent “Drop.”
Atlanta’s Ying Yang Twins are, arguably, the most well-known and successful hip-hop duo working in urban music today. The Twins - Kaine a.k.a. Eric Jackson and D-Roc a.k.a. Deongleo Holmes - have collaborated with some of pop music’s biggest names, including Britney Spears, to craft numerous chart-topping singles.
“Drop,” the duo’s latest single, was produced by Isaac “Ike Dirty” Hayes, the son of R&B innovator and “South Park” star Issac Hayes. Fans have streamed the single more than 15 million times on the duo’s MySpace page
(www.myspace.com/yingyangtwins), according to their official Web site. The Twins’ upcoming sixth album, titled “ATL Holes,” is expected to drop later this year.
Named after the Chinese symbol for light and dark, the Ying Yang Twin’s aggressive yet radio friendly brand of hip-hop, sometimes called “crunk,” has earned the duo a fixed spot on the Billboard charts, MTV and radio
airwaves since 2002.
“The world know we're creative music makers. And we don't just make music, we make hits," D-Roc stated in a recent TVT Records press release.
The duo’s collaboration with Lil’ John & The East Side Boyz, “Get Low,” helped the album “Kings of Crunk” reach platinum-selling success in 2002. Their 2003 album “Me and My Brother” reached number 11 on the Billboard charts and was also a platinum success. Their hit “Wait (The Whisper Song)” was nominated for a Grammy in 2005. The albums that followed, including “U.S.A.” and 2006’s “Chemically Imbalanced,” have all produced a string of hit singles and charted high in the U.S.
"Me and my brother aren't really rappers, we're entertainers," D-roc explained in the press release. "A lot of people get it
confused and think that the crunk thing is all that the south is about. But we just make good music, period. It doesn't matter what race or creed you are, we can give you that song that gets you hype in the club."
The Ying Yang Twins are slated to entertain Spring Breakers on March 20 at Louie’s Backyard on South Padre Island.
