Moneen plays Cine El Rey

Moneen, an indie rock band from Toronto, Canada, will be performing oh, so very far from home at 8 p.m. Friday at Cine El Rey in McAllen.

Sharing the stage with Moneen will be local acoustic duo Arrgh!drey, who is celebrating the release of its debut EP. Also playing are They Mean Us and Ideophonic.

Kenny Bridges, lead singer of Moneen, took a few moments to answer some questions The Monitor.

Bands have die-hard fans who bring them gifts, food, odd things to sign – what do you wish your fans would bring you?

Well, for a while, before we had Krispy Kreme donuts in Canada, I was all about Krispy Kreme donuts. And friends and fans from Buffalo that would come and see us play in Toronto would bring us Krispy Kreme donuts, but I quickly got kind of disgusted by them because they’re made of pure sugar and destroy your soul, but taste so good while you’re eating them. But recently I’ve been very obsessed with Arizona iced tea. The green tea with ginseng and honey to be exact.

What is your number one guilty pleasure right now?

Oh, man … I did want to get the Mariah Carey record a couple days ago. Yeah, I don’t really know why. I think it’s just really funny when she sings so high that it sounds like glass is breaking or dogs are dying. But I didn’t end up doing that.

Did someone stop you?

No, I think just the fact that I would be going into a store to buy Mariah Carey stopped me a little bit.
