Chorale presents Christmas concert

Traditional show returns to Harlingen’s Municipal Auditorium

Valerie Marroquin of the South Texas Chorale rehearses 'Joy to the World' on Tuesday night.

HARLINGEN — It’s something Dianne Brumley has almost gotten used to hearing: many families use the South Texas Chorale’s holiday concert to mark the beginning of the Christmas season.

“This concert really has become a family tradition for so many people,” said Brumley the artistic director and one of the founders of the South Texas Chorale.

“Let Heaven and Nature Sing” will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium.

“Joy to the World” will softly begin the concert with a solo voice blossoming into the entire ensemble. It is an arrangement first written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

“We were very lucky to get it,” Brumley said. “We think it is a fantastic arrangement.”

Brumley said this year’s concert has a snow theme.

“Even from the very beginning with Robert Crum’s solo on ‘Joy to the World’ — the lyrics talk about ‘listen to the falling snow’ — we stayed with that theme.”

Keeping with the Chorale’s tradition, Brumley said the second act of the show will begin with a family-oriented surprise that also features a jazz combo.
